The extreme devastation and chaos of this city is hard to put into words. It’s simply hard to comprehend.
While the water is finally starting to slowly receed in some areas, the utter chaos and disorder of the city continues to increase. There has been gangs taking over the streets, mass luting, thousands of dead and the condition are rapidally deteriorating. I believe that most of those “refugees” that remain are good people (most are extremely low income with nothing left but the clothes on their backs).
The government seems slow to respond. They say they are “coming” while people continue to die. This morning they showed an old man just lying dead on the bridge (he had to have walked there but did not made it).
It angers me that these poor desperate people have not been getting help faster.
Some of those that died fast may be the lucky ones. There are thousands that remain and are suffering.
Why can’t helicopters drop water and food on the bridge?
Why are there not more boats searching for survivors?
Why is it that three days after the devestation we have yet to get enough police and national guard in the region?
I understand the flooding makes this difficult but enough helicopters could do the job.
Why is very little instruction being given to the refugees?
The United States is one of the richest countries in the world. What is happening is saddening and unacceptable. It’s far to little and far to late.
(added: I just heard that they have about 20 rescue teams looking for survivors. Having only 20 teams is ridiculous. They are hundreds and thousands needing rescue any many may only have a few more hours to live)
